Like a vice it gripped my heart
Chilling my bones till they were brittle
Shredding my faith into a million pieces
Numbing me till I couldn’t bat an eyelid
Keeping me in a path of no movement
Putting up chains around my abilities
Helplessly I bowed to its power.
Fear, false evidence appearing real
It strength comes from inability to recognize its unreality
Repeatedly keeping you inactive because of belief in its lies
Whispering words of ineptitude to you
Blowing away your seconds of resolution
What to do to be free?
Did I forget that the actual feeling of being afraid
It’s what it gives fear the energy to birth
The things of which I am so afraid of
Did I forget that what breaks its vice-like hold
Is taking the first step in the direction of the cause
Instead of waiting till every form of courage evaporates
Of course I forgot even though the awareness
Licked at the vestiges of my mind hoping to enter
What to do then?
Overcome by taking the first step of courage
Courage is never the total absence of fear
But the victory over the false evidence appearing real
Today choose courage!
