I guess I was mistaken, The shadow isn’t scary after all

The creaking of the door startled me,
Putting a halt to my thoughts.
As I walked towards the door,
I saw the shadow behind the door,
The like a mirage, it was gone.
He always does this to me ,
Leaving before I get a chance ,
To ask why he torments me so.

I walked into the boardroom,
Exuding pride and confidence,
When I saw the shadow again.
Laughing hysterically in my face.
I wish I knew who the shadow was,
Who was the shadow that assailed me?
Giving me sleepless nights.

I was opportuned to meet him today.
Finally a face to the shadow.
It was my conscience behind the door.
Wishing I would listen to him,
That I wouldn’t fall into the snares,
Traps laid by my desires.

I guess I was mistaken.
The shadow isn’t scary after all.
