Chief Olusegun Obasanjo: Why I am against Restructuring of Nigeria

Former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo has rebuffed recent agitations for the restructuring of the country.

Obasanjo, who made his stance known during the African Leadership Forum in Johannesburg, South Africa, emphasised that Nigeria’s priority now is individual mentality and not restructuring of the country.

The former President urged Nigerians to restructure their minds before calling for the restructuring of the country. “We have to restructure our mentality, we have to restructure our minds we have to restructure our understanding of Nigeria, what country do we want and if we decide on what country we want, how do we get that country, all hands on deck”.

He continued, “How do we get inclusive, how do we get every Nigerian feeling a sense of having a stake in the country.”

Obasanjo stressed that Nigerians’ focus should be on how to include everyone in a nation that is blessed with abundant resources.
